Working & Studying in the European Union

SOCRATES - COMENIUS (SCHOOL EDUCATION)

Action 1) COOPERATION BETWEEN SCHOOLS: MULTILATERAL PARTNERSHIPS

Socrates for schools, otherwise known as "Comenius", is the outstanding new idea in education in Europe for years to come. It is designed to create a 'Europe of Schools'. How will it do this? By organizing "multilateral" partnerships between Schools of the Union to achieve European Educational Projects (EEP).

The motto is: promote cooperation in the school world and spread the cultures and languages of European countries.

But, what actually does European Educational Project mean? Basically, it means your school may:

  • have students take part in projects of European interest (on subjects such as the environment, artistic heritage, science and technology, etc.)
  • create student exchanges to encourage contact between pupils of different countries
  • exchange teaching materials, information and experience in the lastest pedagogical methods
  • make use of the technology of information and comunication to spread the results of the partnership
Actions 2 and 3 of Comenius are addressed to:
  • children of immigrant workers
  • people working in professions where transfer is involved
  • people who have to travel in their jobs, and gypsies.

(The project intends to promote the greatest possible participation of these less fortunate students in school activities through transnational projects)

  • teachers and other educational personnel: to update and improve their competence through the usual transnational projects.
